Adam Craten
On the Levels Farm
"They were fabulous to work with and I felt like we created a collaborative community atmosphere on FARMacy WV market days."
Survey Feedback from a FARMacy WV Farmer
"This may be a big ask but assurances that this program will continue at current levels or even potentially grow in the coming years would allow farmers to plan their growth accordingly while mitigating the risk that can come with production expansion."
Survey Feedback from a FARMacy WV Farmer
“This is every farmer’s dream. You’ve got farmer to consumer week after week, so you make a relationship, and you are living this with them. I find myself harvesting based on what they want. They know their farmer, and I know who I’m feeding. I’ve been paid whether it snows, sleets, rains, or it’s blasting sun hot. It’s a contract, and you don’t find that very often as a farm.”
Survey Feedback from a FARMacy WV Farmer
“FARMacy WV provides economic sustainability for farmers across the state. Farmers can be encouraged to grow more and scale up their production.”
Survey Feedback from a FARMacy WV Farmer
“I really have a blast doing it and it means a lot to me to be able to serve these patients fresh produce every week. It really brings me joy when I see them and they thank me over and over.”
Survey Feedback from a FARMacy WV Farmer
“With what I made this year, I went ahead and paid off my truck and next week we are getting all new plastic on two high tunnels. We are literally taking the money and putting it right back into the farm.”
Survey Feedback from a FARMacy WV Farmer
“I hope you all can grow this. I’d make this my full-time work if I could! We love FARMacy WV!”

How It Works for Farmers

Here’s a quick overview for farmers and growers on how to plan production and weekly offerings for a FARMacy WV program.

Planning Production

Plan FARMacy weekly prescriptions like a CSA box or membership, offering patients a few “choose-your-own” produce options each week. Unlike traditional CSA boxes, FARMacy produce is displayed farmers market-style, with clear signage encouraging patients to actively select their items

Planning the Weekly Offerings

Start by setting weekly produce goals while planning for flexibility and potential loss. Choose which items will appear each week and aim for consistent $25 value boxes that promote healthier eating habits. Offer limited quantities for some items and let patients select on a first-come, first-choice basis.
